Let us celebrate Madame de Sévigné's legacy together!
In 2026, to mark the 400th anniversary of her birth, the Drôme will pay tribute to Madame de Sévigné, an iconic figure of the Grand Siècle and a privileged witness to the social and literary life of her time. Through the letters she wrote to her daughter, the Marquise left us a precious testament to the art of writing, living and loving in the 17th century.
Throughout the year, the Department and the town of Grignan invite you to (re)discover the Marquise through a rich and vibrant programme: exhibitions, performances, historical re-enactments, gastronomy, writing workshops, tours and events for all.

de Sévigné
Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, who would become Madame de Sévigné, was born in Paris in 1626.
A woman of wit and letters, she is today best known for her rich correspondence with her daughter, the Countess of Grignan (more than 700 letters). In her letters, she shared her reflections, her friendships and her readings with numerous correspondents.
Her writing portrays, with intelligence and liveliness, daily life as much as the major public events of her time. Her unprecedented way of blending the personal and the political forms the basis of her originality and striking modernity.
